CAMPUS SAFETY COMMITTEE

highlights from meeting of February 8, 2008

City Café room 1

Greg Hayman, Chair

In the interest of timeliness, this is a brief overview of the most recent meeting attended by Claudia McEnerney and Stephanie McDonald.

  • Valerie Cox described the 8 emergency evacuation sleds the campus will be receiving.  They are toboggan style (no lifting required).  Once a person is strapped onto the sled, it is simply pulled along.  Regarding the stairs, there is no bumping step-by-step as the sled has runners that glide over the steps.   Supposedly, even the smallest, lightest person will be able to handle the sled.
  • Fairly soon, a waterline project will begin from 12th street to the North gym, through the Bookstore parking lot.
  • There is a project in the works that will extend the outside staff eating area of the cafeteria to the South gym.
  • The overflow south parking lot is only open during the first few weeks of the semester.  After that, it is closed and locked to all.
  • Valerie Cox is looking into publishing a Bulletin Update on the campus website that would inform people of the status of reported crimes.   This was in response to concerns about the incidents that occurred near the Art dept. in the past and women’s safety issues in general.
  • Submitted by Stephanie McDonald, 2-13-08
